The Skytrain

Officially opened on 5 December 1999 for the King's 72nd birthday celebration, the Skytrain spans almost 20 miles on 2 connecting lines. Although this is just the 1st phase of a 10 year project the route now open goes through many tourist areas. There are stops throughout the "Golden Mile" area (Sukhumvit Rd), Siam Square, Silom Rd (Patpong Area) and as far north as Chatuchak (weekend market).

The fares are calculated by distance from the originating station to the final destination with the minimum fare being 10Baht (.25usd) to a maximum of 40baht (1.00usd). Although  for groups larger than 2 a "Taxi Meter" would be less expensive, the Skytrain can be much faster during peak traffic times.

About the only criticism to be made about the Skytrain is it's lack of escalators and elevators. Making travel for the handicapped difficult. An upgrade is in the works.
